JAMES ALLEN MERITT Saturday, September 23, 1933 - Saturday, May 20, 2017

James Allen Meritt “Pa Jim” of Clever, Missouri passed away May 20, 2017. He was born in Possum Trot, Missouri on September 23, 1933 to Lawrence and Veronica (King) Meritt.

Survived by his wife, Ruby (Mallonee) Meritt, of 63 years; children, Cathy Sanderson (Richard), Tom Meritt (Kathy), and Karen Bloomer; his grandchildren, Jaredd King (Heather), James Darin Bloomer, Jessica Bloomer, Jonathan Bloomer, Mallonee Meritt Basham (Tony), and Travis Meritt; by great grandchildren, Lanie, Gracie, Abbi, Rylea, Klarah, Maycee, James Allen, Aidyn, Emma, Tegan, Jaxon, Brendyn and Maverick; one sister, Mary Katherine Boyd (John); five nieces and their families; and several cousins.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Aaron King and Jeffrey Bloomer; one great grandchild, Paityn; and a brother in-law, Winfred Mallonee.

Jim attended Possum Trot School. He graduated in 1951 from Clever High School where he played basketball and had a Perfect Attendance Record for the twelve years of school.

Jim and Ruby met at a fox hunt in Boaz, Missouri and married on January 1, 1954. Jim served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Currier DE in San Diego, California. When they returned home Jim worked for 15 years at Lilly Tulip and then for Oscar Hawkins Oil Company as a truck driver and retired from Oakland Lubrication.

Jim retired in 1995 and lived with Ruby, his bride, on his boyhood farm at Boaz, Missouri. He raised cattle and enjoyed farm life.

Jim was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church; Friend Lodge #352 of Ozark; Eastern Star; Scottish Rite; and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine. He was also a member of the Mounted Patrol and served as a reserve deputy in the mid 70’s.

Jim went on many trail rides over the years. Jim and Ruby were square dancers and Jim also enjoyed calling the dances. During the years his grandsons were in Boy Scouts he was honored for his work and time with their troop. All the grandchildren and great grandchildren treasured spending time at Pa Jim and Grandma Ruby’s house.

Jim was loved and will be missed by Ruby, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a multitude of family and friends. He took much pride in family and was always ready to help a friend or neighbor.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2017 in Meadors Funeral Home, Clever Chapel, 304 E. Drive, St., Clever, MO. The funeral service, with Masonic Rites, will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2017, also in the funeral home. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow the service in Frazier Cemetery, Clever. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110, or Frazier Cemetery Association, in care of the funeral home.

Service Details: A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2017 in Meadors Funeral Home, Clever Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2017, also in the funeral home. Burial, with Military Honors and Masonic Rites, will follow the service in Frazier Cemetery, Clever.
