RALPH EDWARD WEST Monday, November 28, 1949 - Saturday, September 30, 2017

Ralph Edward “Sonny” West, Jr., age 67, of Bois D`Arc, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, after years of disability. He was born on November 28, 1949, in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Ralph Edward Sr. and Martha Eileen (Treat) West.

Ralph grew up on Mount Vernon St., Springfield, in between his best friends Roger Huckabee and Gary Sly, and they remained friends throughout their lives. He graduated from Central High School in 1967 and served in the US Air Force in Laredo, Texas until 1971. In 1974 while working at Burl Briscoe's car lot in Republic, Missouri, Ralph saw a girl in overalls helping her father. Ilonna Marilyn Lewis would become his partner, wife, caretaker, and friend through sickness and health for the rest of their lives. Together they raised three wonderful children – Andrea Renee, Alicia Dawn, and Ronald Jacob. Ralph loved his friends – Roger, Gary, Stokes, Loveland, Maxine, Rhonda, and many others. He would do anything for them. He never hesitated to drop everything and come to the rescue and his word was gospel. Ralph was close to his mother, Martha, his entire life. She taught him strength, hard work, and love. He was a towering and protective younger brother to Dorothy and also to Ruby who we lost in 1990. Ralph enjoyed fishing, racing, spending time at the lake, and fixing almost anything. Ralph respected others and was not afraid to stand up to anyone or anything, but was wise enough to know when to back down and humble himself. This is the "Ralphie" we will never forget. We will always love him and miss him. Rest In Peace to a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Sr.; and sister, Ruby Kleier.

Ralph is survived by his wife Ilonna (Lewis); children, Andrea Wiyrick, MSGT, USAF (Yuba City, CA), Alicia West (Detroit, MI), Ronald and Melissa West (Republic, MO); his mother, Martha; a sister, Dorothy and Robert Nellans; and many cousins, aunts, nieces, and nephews. We hope the fish are bitin' in heaven.

Thank you for sharing you alls husband and father with all of us who needed him in our lives. Will always remember him, and all the fun times we had.
RIP my friend! Sonny was a great man and loved by many. We will have another fishing trip again and of course in the rain.
I am so sorry for your loss.
We're so glad we were all together for a happy day at Ronnie & Melissa's wedding. I think he could feel the joy coming from all of us and can now rest in peace knowing that all of his family was doing ok. Happy fishing Ralph.
So sorry for your loss. Praying for your families and the easing of grief and sorrow. Great memories are comforting at times like this! Hold on to those...
I have so many memories of Ralph throughout the years- happy, funny, sad.  His loyalty and live was unwavering. Those of us who knew Ralph well, feel a void in our lives even after all these past 15 or so years that he was not the vibrant, fiery, exuberant Ralph that we remember and love.    We take comfort in all the good memories he brought us and the knowledge that he is free from pain and at peace.
Ilonna and family, Our condolences upon the loss of Ralphie, who is now at peace. Fondly, Dan & Susan Compton
